Bianca has one year left to live. One year to find a way to free herself from a curse set on her way before she was even born. One year left to save those that she loves from the evil hands of Miss Mabel, but first, she has to get into Miss Mabel’s School for Girls and win the Annual Competition. As you can probably guess from the short summary, yes, she won the competition and yes, half the book was that predictable. Oh and apparently all the grade levels are mixed up and they all go in the same class to study and all have the same schedules… It goes without saying right? Bad. World. Building. Despite those little glitches, the second half of the book was great. It was fast paced and contained a couple of twists here and there that made it a lot better than the first part. I loved Miss Mabel; she kept coming with new surprises every time we see her. Excellent character development. I'm quite surprised that many people say that this book is a rip off of Harry Potter. Other than the fact that there are witches and that it takes place in school, the similarities end there. I don’t get it. Do you compare every vampire book to Twilight? It was fun and I liked it, but I do expect more from the second book. 3.5 stars *Received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* Wow. It’s been a while since I've read a good romance novel. Melanie’s family has sold her off to a couple of slave traders across the sea. When she’s been auctioned at a cathouse in London, she escapes and hides in a random carriage that happens to belong to Lord Christopher Ashworth. Christopher brings her to his house and they slowly fall in love. Will their love stand strong despite the rumors, and the misunderstandings? This book was surprisingly beautifully written and didn't feel instalovy. Not once was I bored or uninterested and it wasn't oversexed like Outlander or Entwined with you. It depicts the struggles of love and the problems that can happen. It was realistic (well the love story, not the world building) and was a very enjoyable read even though several spelling mistakes are present (ex: "Chit"). With a "C"...Really? Hell no. It's just that this book really doesn't stand out from the countless romance books in this world. Nevertheless, I still liked it. I just didn't love it. 3.5 stars P.S: Geez that cover. I thought I was going to read about a damsel in distress in an opera or something. CHANGE IT! (Requested review) The plot was interesting though the relation between Adam and Juliette was way too predictable. It too lovey-dovey and it felt very fake because they haven't seen each other for two or three years and then they suddenly start making out. It's such a fairy tale. The other thing I didn't like about this book was probably the fact that Juliette is the most pathetic protagonist (notice that the cover depicts an eye crying). She's scared of everything and is so insecure. And I won't even start with all the friggin' coincidences in this book, but I'll give you a taste of it with a slight exaggeration: O.M.G My touch can destroy the world!!! It can break anything including concrete walls (but I happens to not be able to break my way out of prison) and it can kill anyone (except for my boyfriend and my worst enemy), of course. Seriously. What? Please, Tahereh Mafi, shatter yourself and this book. P.S. Crossing out text in a book is a very bad idea. It's annoying as hell. Honestly, this book doesn't even deserve a star. *Received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review* Earth is a wasteland, its citizens scrambling off to save themselves. In this Dystopian world a half-human Dinosaur Hunter named Croctus Reptilius and his partner, Sawtooth, a mutant crocodile, hunt raptors for profit in the environmentally devastated Florida Everglades. When a dead time-traveler returns from the grave to warn Reptilius of a Zombie threat masterminded by a ruthless organization called "The Sect," Reptilius must seek for help. He turns himself towards a teenage girl with a deadly secret and an MI6 scientist. Both of these people possess skills that can help turn the tide, or, condemn Earth to a Zombie apocalypse from which there is no return. What I realized by reading this book was that I hated zombies, that I despised crocodiles and that I didn't particularly like apocalypses either. If you've guessed that I speed read this book, well , you're right. The writing felt very heavy in this one and it just didn't flow naturally. It needs more descriptions, less repetitions and less "choppiness" in general. The settings was very vague and I really didn't like the little random flashbacks of every single character throughout the book. What I did like about this book was the time travelling and different realities. Uner added a different twist to an old classic and kind of made it his own. Although it wasn't too bad, I still didn't really understand how did no country intervene before Earth turned into Wall-E world...but you know, at least it teaches us about the consequences of environmental disasters. 2 stars *Warning: this book contains coarse language, graphic violence and sexual scenes that might be disturbing to some readers* To the outside world, they look like American Royalty, giving to charities, feeding the homeless, rebuilding the city. But behind closed doors is a constant battle for dominance between two Bosses, cultures, and hearts. Set in modern day Chicago, Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan—rivals by blood and leaders through fear are stuck in an arranged marriage by their fathers in hopes to end years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians. Liam believes he’s getting a simple-minded wife, one he can control, one who bends to his every need . . . the complete opposite of Melody. She would rather die than give up the power she has spent her life building. The Mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses gunning for them, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work as one to take down those who stand in their way. Before this book, I thought I was starting to develop some reading problems because recently, it's been taking me longer and longer to read books. Turns out the answer wasn't that I was becoming a worst reader but more like I wasn't reading any good books--and it takes me forever to read a book that I don't like but hey, perks of being a book blogger. Anyways back to my review, I thought this book was highly enjoyable. It was filled with action. Mel was soooo kick ass and bitchy with people that think that she's weak. She's a complicated character and stands up to Liam when he expects her to be a nice housewife. She definitely proved him wrong. I also really liked Liam because he has his own imperfections and sometimes he makes very bad decisions like a normal human being. He falls in love with her slowly and their relationship doesn't always go well. He fights for her and is a tad bit possessive but you just know that he really loves her. They're so wrong yet so right for each other. Most of the characters got their own POV and the writing style was quite well written despite the several typos. What I didn't like was the improbability of anything in this book happening. I honestly doubt that the mafia would get married Kim Kardashian style with the media poking in all the time. With the number of times that Liam and Mel are stabbing people, wouldn't the paparazzi catch them at least once? And the even more obvious things: the 19 million$ check donation to the police that was everywhere on the news. Subtlety mafia level 0. There was also a large amount of sex in this book. Even though it was very hot, it was a little repetitive after a while. Other than that, I really liked it. 4 stars *I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review* Summary : Cassidy has to find the Source to make her sister immortal. Why isn’t her sister doing it herself? Because why would you put effort into doing anything yourself when you can manipulate your sister into doing it for you. Review: Cassidy is a 117 years old furor but acts like a kid. She isn’t strong, wise nor patient. She’s a child that throws a tantrum every time she’s mad (geez girl stop PMS-ing), she feels like killing everyone because that’s her job and thinks that she’s powerful and cool but she’s not. This book just refuses to stand out from the other hundreds of thousands of YA books in the world. There was absolutely nothing different to it. Oh wait I forgot. There’s also an Instalove moment. It kind of went like this: *Cassidy walks in her class and sits next to a hot guys* *Cassidy realizes that this guy is hot and falls in love* You know how it went for the guy? *Guy sees random mad and sad girl sit next to him* BOOM Instalove Yes, you heard me "MAD AND SAD". *flashy letters+fireworks appear here* Dude, I’m pretty sure you just wanted to screw her. Also, the number of coincidences in this book baffles me. Especially when Cassidy and loverboy have a project to do together and it just happens to be about Furors. Really girl? Hell nah. Since the love party and googly-eyes took way to much space in the book, the plot and the settings were underdeveloped and felt very very fake but the writing wasn't painful enough to be a 1 star and not good enough to be a 3. Therefore I'll just have to settle with the 2. There are also some typo mistake present in the book. 2 stars |
